Indian Summer is here and cooler weather is just around the corner. Autumn, like Springtime, is the perfect season to re-assess our skin care regime, and make adjustments to keep our skin glowing by switching cleanser, misting generously, doing gentle exfoliation with masques followed by slightly heavier moisturizers and adding specific eye and lip treatments to recover from the drying, de-hydrating and sun-filled days of Summer.
I highly recommend you begin these transitional treatments just after Labor Day and do them as often as possible in the weeks before the Autumnal Equinox that occurs this year on September 22nd. Then continue this regimen through the early to mid Autumn season.
I believe NOW is the right time to start these more intensive treatments to make sure your skin stays in top condition without suddenly displaying those fine lines and hyper-pigmentation (freckles, sun spots, discolorations) which you begin to notice a little too late. These are caused first of all by neglecting a consistent daily program which accentuates the dehydration and sun exposure of Summer.
And secondly, when we fail updating our routine to adjust to the new weather conditions and changes that occur in our personal environments, i. e. drier air and chill winds, we end up playing catch up and are not prepared to put forward a relaxed and renewed countenance for the lovely Autumn season.
As we transition from Summer into Autumn, a good rule to remember is this–
“Just as we begin to layer our clothing to adjust to the cooler weather, the same concept can be applied to our skin care routine.” (my own quote). I say emphatically that we need to treat our facial skin, which always includes the neck and decollete area, as well as the thinner, more fragile areas around our eyes and lips with protective LAYERS before we notice dry flaky skin, uneven tone, clogged pores, and hyper-pigmentation conditions happening.
Here is my advice on complete Seasonal Ritual to renew your Summer-parched Skin~
1. START with changing the type of Cleanser you are using both in the AM & PM: While a gel or foaming cleanser is often preferred in warmer weather conditions, it’s important to change to a gentler, non-stripping facial cleanser to dissolve facial impurites such as dirt, make-up, sunscreen, and air pollution in order to keep your skin clean and moist.
These are my favorite CLEANSERS for Autumn [all referenced products in this post are in Alphabetical Order with the number of asterisks (*) signifying the sequence of usage.] Please read the links to determine your own preferences–all my recs are very pure and effective high quality natural ingredient skin care products which I have personally tested and utilized to keep my own skin in top form, plus are highly recommened to my loyal clientele.
2. After a thorough Evening Cleanse, you may only have an easy Morning Protocol of misting your face or applying a hydrating SKIN FRESHENER/TONER** like these:
**Napa Valley au Naturel’s Rose Kisses for your Face-
** OSEA’s Sea Minerals or Sea Vitamin Boost- both available in travel sizes~
3. Follow immediately with a layer of Hydrating SERUM such as:
or, if you notice any Pigmentation, then definitely use ***OSEA’s Brightening Serum
4. Then, before your serum absorbs, apply a light layer of a rejuvenating FACIAL OIL BLEND Oil such as-
****Napa Valley au Naturel’s Rosa Rubiginosa Face Elixir-
5. Your Last Step in the evening/PM is a Medium-weight CREAM such as-
6. Finish in the AM with an ******spf 30 Sunscreen…my preferences are:
******Andalou Naturals 1000 Roses C+C [Color + Correct] spf 30 that comes in a Nude or Suntan shade (to carry on that Summer glow)–
******Non-tinted, Colorless, Award-winning SHEER PROTECTION spf 30 by the professional line SKIN SCRIPT [a best-seller with my Simply Nirvana clients ]–
ALSO–Remember to thoroughly apply an excellent Eye Gel or Eye Balm on top of the eye bone, NOT close to the eyes since the eyes are more sensitive and the heat generated by the eyes will cause the product to move upwards possibly causing stinging and irritation. Then, layers of Serum, Cream and Sunscreen around the mouth area in the AM or a specific Lip Balm on the lips close to where those tiny lines appear in the PM.
as well as Napa Valley au Naturel’s Eye and Lip Treatments-
For a combination product, I suggest OSEA’s Eyes & Lips for the eye area and around the mouth area (not on top of the lips please)-
ALSO–Highly-suggested COMPLEMENTARY TREATMENTS: One to three times a week use a Clairsonic device with slow, gentle, light circles on your entire facial area (face, neck and décolleté) in your PM routine after applying for 10 – 20 minutes and rinsing off a gentle CLAY or Fruit Enzyme Masque.
My favorites masks for the season are:
HONUA’s ‘Aina Masque: A gentle deep-cleansing mask with purified charcoal to detoxify and soothe~
HONUA’s ‘Moana Mask: A hydrating, brightening and plumping mask to restore
OSEA’s White Algae Mask–
And/or if your skin is not sensitive, use OSEA’s Red Algae Mask (if your skin is clogged, oily, or blemish-prone, combine equal parts of OSEA’s White and Red Algae Masks)–
Make plans today to schedule a post Summer super-hydrating facial treatment from your experienced Holistic Esthetician to be followed in a couple of weeks by a light professional strength fruit enzyme peel, PLEASE DON’T ALLOW HER TO USE ANY glycolics, salicylic acids or aggravating procedures like dermaplaning or dermabrasion on your post-Summer Skin–these proedures remove the protective layers of the skin and are not recommended at any time of year, but especially if you’ve acquired any sun damage.
ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT–Drink plenty of non-carbonated liquids, especially pure Spring Water, and consider going on a one, two or three day fresh Vegetable Juice Fast alone, or along with only a fruit or vegetarian meals to keep your whole body system functioning well and help your digestive/elimination system re-boot after the not-so-healthy diet you may have consumed during the last days of August. Autumn is one of the seasons (Spring is the other) to do gentle de-toxing as a excellent method of SELF-CARE.
I trust you’ll find these suggestions helpful and if you have any questions, please message me on at the top of Simply Nirvana’s FB page.
Enjoy a lovely Indian Summer, dear Followers, the Autumn Equinox (first day of Autumn), and the cozy feeling of breathing the fresh air while walking under the dappled sunlight through fallen Autumn leaves
